Geneva Expands Family-Friendly Cycling Routes Across City Parks This Summer

The additions matter now because Geneva recorded 18 percent more bicycle traffic in the first half of 2026 than the same period last year, according to city mobility counts, and parents have asked for routes where children can learn without traffic stress during the school holidays.
Named routes through city parks
The Parc La Grange loop starts at the main gate on Avenue de la Paix and follows a 1.2-kilometre sealed path past the rose garden before joining the lakeside promenade. A second route runs through Parc des Eaux-Vives from the Rue de la Terrassière entrance to the jetty at Bains des Pâquis, where the city installed rubber speed cushions at every path crossing last month. Both segments form part of the City of Geneva’s “Mobilité Douce” programme that added 12 kilometres of family-grade lanes since January.
Practical steps and costs
Rentals at the Geneva Public Bike hub on Place du Rhône cost 8 Swiss francs for a half-day child seat bike or 15 francs for an adult model with basket. Free helmets are available at the same station on Saturdays in July. The routes stay open until 10 pm and are lit after dusk. Riders who want to extend the ride can continue along the Rhône path toward Carouge, where another 3 kilometres of separated lane opened in May. Local families report completing the full Parc La Grange to Port Noir circuit in under 45 minutes at a relaxed pace, leaving time for a stop at the playground near the botanical glasshouses before heading home.
Parents planning a first outing should check the city’s online map for any temporary closures after heavy rain and start at the Parc La Grange car park, where free spaces remain available on weekday mornings. The new lanes will stay in place through the autumn season.
